Wolfsburg - Volkswagen finally go to vote related news regarding their production of cheap cars. Boss Volkswagen VW confirmed that the cheap car will be produced in 2015.
"We are developing a cheap car priced between 6000-7000 euros ," said Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn told German media quoted by Autocar, Tuesday (02/12/2013).
Winterkorn explained that the cheap car market is very lucrative. "About three million cars will be sold in this segment every year in China alone," he said.
However, cheap car is not expected to use the Volkswagen brand, but will be made brand new. For starters, this cheap car will be first focused on the China market which is currently the largest market in the world.
Later when there is an opportunity, it could be the car will be marketed to other countries like India.
For the platform, some say that the cheap car VW will take the base of a small car VW Up! But VW colleagues in China, FAW says it will use traditional Mk2 VW Jetta as its base.
Vice President of FAW-VW Qin Huan Sun told Chinese media that the company's collaboration between FAW and Volkswagen is preparing to make a cheap car brand for the Chinese market and will produce four cars with an annual production target of FAW-VW are currently around 450,000 units will be increased to 800,000 units.
